ATONEMENT:
GOD IS WITH US

Leviticus 16:14-16 KJV And he shall take of the blood of the
bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy seat eastward;
and before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his
finger seven times. (15) Then shall he kill the goat of the
sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the
vail, and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bullock,
and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat:
(16) And he shall make an atonement for the holy place, because
of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their
transgressions in all their sins: and so shall he do for the tabernacle
of the congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of their
uncleanness.
ATONEMENT is associated with the ark of the Covenant.
ATONEMENT : 2. Expiation; satisfaction or reparation made by giving an
equivalent for an injury, or by doing or suffering that which is
received in satisfaction for an offense or injury; with for.
REPARATION: Repairing or restoring.
A fellowship WITH GOD is restored in atonement.
Leviticus 17:11 KJV For the life of the flesh is in the blood:
and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your
souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
Numbers 15:28 KJV And the priest shall make an atonement for the
soul that sinneth ignorantly, when he sinneth by ignorance before the
LORD, to make an atonement for him; and it shall be forgiven him.
We have repaired a fellowship with God when we experience atonement for
our souls.
- We are AT ONE with God again.
- ATONE = AT ONE.
- In fellowship.
- GOD IS WITH US.
Isaiah 6:1-2 KJV In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the
Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled
the temple. (2) Above it stood the seraphims: each one had
six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered
his feet, and with twain he did fly.
The Throne of God is LIKE the ARK.
- ABOVE THE SEAT WERE CHERUBIMS.
- Rev 4:8 says four beasts had
six wings.
Everytime we read of the ark of the
covenant involved in a miracle or something wonderful with God's
people, we are to understand God is trying to say something about HE IS
WITH US.
Numbers 14:6-9 KJV And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son
of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their
clothes: (7) And they spake unto all the company of the
children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search
it, is an exceeding good land. (8) If the LORD delight in
us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which
floweth with milk and honey. (9) Only rebel not ye against
the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread
for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us:
fear them not.
When Israel was supposed to enter Canaan and possess the promised land,
ten of the twelve spies doubted they could.
- And Joshua and Caleb
maintained confidence.
- And Joshua's argument was
based upon the fact that GOD WAS WITH US.
They had the ark of the covenant there.
- They got it back at Mount
Sinai where they built it from the gold of the Egyptians.
- But notice it is not
mentioned here.
- There is no reference to the
ark like there was when they did enter 40 years later AND HELD IT UP IN
THE AIR AND WALKED THROUGH JORDAN!
God said he'd never leave us nor forsake us.
- But unless we HOLD THAT TRUTH
UP IN FAITH, it will do us no good.
Holding the ark up is symbolic of UPHOLDING FAITH THAT GOD IS WITH US.
Joshua 3:13 KJV And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles
of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of
all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of
Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and
they shall stand upon an heap.
The ARK - the truth of GOD BEING WITH THEM, AND THEN DEPENDING UPON
THAT, cause d the power of God to rip open the JORDAN RIVER.
There are two extremes of one error.
- Being so puffed up that we
think we can do everything, and we will not depend upon God to do it.
- Or being so defeated and full
of unbelief that we do not TRUST that God is with us, and He cannot
work.
THROUGH JESUS means Jesus is with us inside us and THAT POWER IN US can
work and live through.
Romans 7:15 KJV For that which I do I allow not: for what I
would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
Philippians 4:13 KJV I can do all things through Christ which
strengtheneth me.
He strengthens you to do things your own strength cannot do.
- But when you do not resort to
Him, for whatever reasons of pride or defeatism, he cannot strengthen
you.
- God does not respond to
self-pity.
- He responds to faith.
- YOU MUST HOLD UP YOUR FAITH
that God is with you.
- You must understand the
concept of succeeding only by relying on the fact GOD IS WITH YOU
because of the atonement.
- And that is UPHOLDING FAITH
in the atonement and being WITH GOD.
Romans 8:31 KJV What shall we then say to these things? If God be
for us, who can be against us?
Hebrews 13:5-6 KJV Let your conversation be without covetousness;
and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will
never leave thee, nor forsake thee. (6) So that we may
boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall
do unto me.
Revelation 3:17 KJV Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased
with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art
wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
This church was so self-sufficient that they felt that even without
Jesus they were "IT".
- In fact they were so self
-sufficient that they locked Jesus out of the church.
Revelation 3:20 KJV Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if
any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and
will sup with him, and he with me.
And then we read something about ATONEMENT.
Revelation 3:21 KJV To him that overcometh will I grant to sit
with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my
Father in his throne.
SITTING WITH HIM ON HIS THRONE is represented by ATONEMENT.
- THE ARK had a MERCYSEAT.
- The throne of God.
And these people had to overcome SELF-DEPENDENCE.
- If they would overcome that,
THEY WOULD SIT WITH JESUS.
- ON HIS THRONE.
- They had to have a revelation
of DEPENDENCE ON JESUS BEING WITH THEM.
And after we read of OVERCOMING AS JESUS DID, and A THRONE, we enter
chapter 4 and 5 which mentions the throne of God.
Revelation 4:1-2 KJV After this I looked, and, behold, a door was
opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a
trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew
thee things which must be hereafter. (2) And immediately I
was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat
on the throne.
The FATHER'S THRONE is shown.
Cherubims are seen in verse 7.
Then the LAMB, the SON OF GOD, is said to PREVAIL.
- TO OVERCOME IS TO PREVAIL.
Revelation 5:5 KJV And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not:
behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath
prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
If he was standing as if he had been slain, HE OVERCAME DEATH!
Revelation 5:9-10 KJV And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art
worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast
slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred,
and tongue, and people, and nation; (10) And hast made us
unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
Then we read way over in Rev 22:1:
Revelation 22:1 KJV And he shewed me a pure river of water of
life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the
Lamb.
The throne no longer is occupied BY ONE.
- It is GOD AND THE LAMB.
- HE SAT DOWN WITH HIS FATHER
after overcoming.
Now, here we find out the answer to HOW HE OVERCAME AND SAT DOWN WITH
HIS FATHER ON HIS THRONE.
HE OVERCAME DEATH.
- This is how we overcome!
- Overcome AS HE DID.
How did he overcome? By his death and resurrection.
- How do we overcome?
- BY HIS DEATH AND RESURRECTION.
So apply that to Laodicaea.
- Overcome SELF-SUFFICIENCY by
Jesus' DEATH AND RESURRECTION!
- Forget about yourself all
alone, YOU DIED.
- AND JESUS IS WITH YOU BECAUSE
YOU DIED WITH HIM.
Romans 6:6 KJV Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with
him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should
not serve sin.
What gives us the power and the right to say we should not serve sin?
- WE WERE CRUCIFIED WITH HIM.
We can face any threatening situation and say we have power over it
because we were crucified With Jesus.
Romans 6:5 KJV For if we have been planted together in the
likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his
resurrection:
The likeness of his resurrection is OVERCOMING POWER.
The reason Israel went through JORDAN with the ark,is not only because
JORDAN was where Jesus was later baptized, to show us a concept of
DEATH to SELF, but JORDAN MEANS DESCENDER.
- When you DIE, you DESCEND.
- SELF GOES UNDER.
- SELF-SUFFICIENCY GOES UNDER.
- START BELIEVING GOD IS WITH
YOU.
Revelation 1:15 KJV And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they
burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
Notice this.
Ezekiel 1:5 KJV Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness
of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the
likeness of a man.
Ezekiel 1:10 KJV As for the likeness of their faces, they four
had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and
they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had
the face of an eagle.
Ezekiel 1:25-26 KJV And there was a voice from the firmament that
was over their heads, when they stood, and had let down their
wings. (26) And above the firmament that was over their
heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire
stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the
appearance of a man above upon it.
Rev 1:7 shows the same faces as this after we read of the THRONE OF GOD
in Rev 4.
Ezekiel 1:24 KJV And when they went, I heard the noise of their
wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the Almighty,
the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let
down their wings.
Just like REV 1 the SOUND OF GOD'S VOICE and GREAT WATERS.
The ark had cherubims on it.
Revelation 22:1 KJV And he shewed me a pure river of water of
life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the
Lamb.
LIVING WATERS PROCEEDED... MOVED FLOWED
That which was a SOUND IN HIS WORD was manifested PHYSICALLY in the
vision of Rev 22.
- THE WORD MANIFESTING.
- THE WORD MADE FLESH.
- But also the WORD MADE INTO
THE PHYSICAL.
GOD IS WITH US... and the power from that UNION goes forth.
- It opened Jordan.
- It destroyed Jericho.
- It smashed Dagon.
- It blessed Obededom's home
for months.
We must stop thinking of our situations as being us all alone on our
own.
- Saints have to learn to walk
on their own feet and not have pastor pick them up all the time like a
mother, and learn GOD IS WITH YOU.
Jesus took the book full of all
tribulation and wrath.
He is in control.
- He is on the throne.
- Before we read of anything in
Revelation we read of this!
