Exodus 16:4-5 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no. And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.
Double portions in the bible were simply twice as much as one person required.
Job 1:3 KJV His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east. Job had 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen and 500 she asses. After he was persecuted by his friends and God corrected them, he blessed Job with a DOUBLE PORTION: Job 42:12 KJV So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses. Exactly twice as many livestock as he had before. Double Portion was given to show preeminence and blessing. During the Exodus, since they had no food, God provided MANNA.
Look at what happened. Exodus 16:14-27 And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground. And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat. This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents. And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less. And when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating. And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning. Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them. And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating: and when the sun waxed hot, it melted. And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses. And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning. And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein. And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field. Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none. And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none. Normally the manna would rot and breed worms if they kept some until the next day, as though it might save them some work in gathering the next day.
This was a miracle!
So we could say the SIXTH DAY blessing of manna was exceptionally beyond that of the previous five days. They would ENTER THE DAY OF REST and not have to work and yet have the food of manna!
Recall we compared the land of Canaan where they received houses they never built and vineyards they never planted with Christ's words in John 4 about reaping where they bestowed no labour?
All of this represents KINGDOM LIVING.
The manna represents TRUTH. John 6:31-35 KJV Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. (32) Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. (33) For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. (34) Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. (35) And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. John 6:48-54 KJV I am that bread of life. (49) Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. (50) This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. (51) I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. (52) The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? (53) Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. (54) Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. Jesus identified what his flesh and blood referred to when the last supper occurred and He told it was his body breaking and his blood shedding on the cross.
So what is ONE PORTION of truths of the cross compared to A DOUBLE PORTION?
We know ONE MAN died on the cross and claimed victory over sin and death during the first phase of our Christianity. Romans 6:9-10 KJV Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. (10) For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. But Romans 6 says there is a FURTHER revelation associated with that single portion death. Romans 6:11-12 KJV Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. (12) Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. How can we claim a death to sin and life to God on account of Jesus Christ's death to sin and life to God? BECAUSE... Romans 6:6 KJV Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. Also: 2 Corinthians 5:14 KJV For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: If He died for us, then we DIED, too! As far as you are concerned personally, THE DOUBLE PORTION truth is how you and Jesus BOTH DIED in that single event of the cross.
Hebrews 3:8-11 KJV Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: (9) When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. (10) Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. (11) So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.) Entering Canaan was entering a rest. And entering Canaan involves defeating enemies. When Israel conquered all her enemies, we read: Joshua 21:44 KJV And the LORD gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand. When you enter REST not an enemy can stand before you. We see the same double portion concept in the parable of the virgins. Matthew 25:1-12 KJV Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. (2) And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. (3) They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: (4) But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. (5) While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. (6) And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. (7) Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. (8) And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. (9) But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. (10) And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. (11) Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. (12) But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Just as one ENTERED the REST of the seventh day with a DOUBLE PORTION supply of manna, the WISE VIRGINS went to the wedding because they had oil in their lamps and ANOTHER ALLOTMENT OF OIL in additional VESSELS.
Jesus said THIS IS THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. WEDDINGS are DUAL PORTIONS UNITING AS ONE.
Just like the virgins saying LORD LORD let us enter, and Jesus says I KNOW YE NOT, Matt 7 says: Matthew 7:21-23 KJV Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. (22) Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? (23) And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. A DOUBLE PORTION is the concept behind the ATONEMENT ritual.
We said the KINGDOM is represented by the ark of the covenant as the mercyseat of the ark depicts the THRONE.
Revelation 20:4 KJV And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. The cherubims on the mercyseat of the ark are the four beasts of Revelation 4 and 5. Revelation 5:8-10 KJV And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints. (9) And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; (10) And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. Revelation 1:5-6 KJV And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, (6) And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. The same blood that redeemed us made us kings and priests to rule. On that mercyseat where the cherubims sat, the blood of ATONEMENT -- union to Christ -- was sprinkled. THE ARK SHOWS KINGDOM POWER. We must understand the double portion revelation in order to RULE. Leviticus 25:2-6 KJV Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land which I give you, then shall the land keep a sabbath unto the LORD. (3) Six years thou shalt sow thy field, and six years thou shalt prune thy vineyard, and gather in the fruit thereof; (4) But in the seventh year shall be a sabbath of rest unto the land, a sabbath for the LORD: thou shalt neither sow thy field, nor prune thy vineyard. (5) That which groweth of its own accord of thy harvest thou shalt not reap, neither gather the grapes of thy vine undressed: for it is a year of rest unto the land. (6) And the sabbath of the land shall be meat for you; for thee, and for thy servant, and for thy maid, and for thy hired servant, and for thy stranger that sojourneth with thee, UNDRESSED VINE literally means NAZARITE VINE, for as the Nazarite vow had the man or woman not cut their hair, the crops would not be pruned nor dressed.
Leviticus 25:20-22 KJV And if ye shall say, What shall we eat the seventh year? behold, we shall not sow, nor gather in our increase: (21) Then I will command my blessing upon you in the sixth year, and it shall bring forth fruit for three years. (22) And ye shall sow the eighth year, and eat yet of old fruit until the ninth year; until her fruits come in ye shall eat of the old store. The blessing hits the SIXTH YEAR just like the sixth day of the week in the wilderness, and God would multiply the crops without THEIR WORK, and they would eat from that one EFFORT OF WORK ON THE sixth year for the 6th and 7th and 8th year.
And this too was a TEMPORARY RETURN TO EDENIC BLESSINGS, with no curse of the ground affecting crops to cause them to have to sewat to eat bread FOR TOW YEARS IN A ROW -- double portion! :Legalism is cut off at the pass through a DOUBLE PORTION REVELATION/
1 Peter 4:1 KJV Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; VICTORY OVER SIN due to the work being done.
THE CROSS WAS ENOUGH OF AN EXPERIENCE TO COUNT FOR BOTH YOU AND JESUS! Matthew 17:24 KJV And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute? TRIBUTE Money was ATONEMENT MONEY. Exodus 30:13-15 KJV This they shall give, every one that passeth among them that are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary: (a shekel is twenty gerahs:) an half shekel shall be the offering of the LORD. (14) Every one that passeth among them that are numbered, from twenty years old and above, shall give an offering unto the LORD. (15) The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give an offering unto the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls. Matthew 17:25-27 KJV He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers? (26) Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free. (27) Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee. The ATONEMENT money God put in the fish's mouth was enough to cover BOTH CHRIST AND PETER!
