"CREATED TO REST AND REIGN"

Gene 1:27-28 So God created man
in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female
created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful,
and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion
over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every
living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Gene 2:1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth
were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended
his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from
all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day,
and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which
God created and made.
Hebr 4:3-5 For we which have believed do
enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath,
if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were
finished from the foundation of the world. For he spake in a certain place
of the seventh [day] on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from
all his works. And in this [place] again, If they shall enter into
my rest.
Adam was created to rule the world, as we mentioned this morning.
-
And the very next thing we read is that God rested the seventh day.
-
Many think Christianity is just for some people.
-
That is simply as wrong as wrong can be.
-
Christianity is for the entire human race who were created to reign with
God.
-
Adam sinned and the human race fell.
-
He lost his dominion.
Then we read in the New Testament that Jesus Christ died and resurrected
from the tomb, and ascended far above all principalities and powers and
dominions.
Hebr 10:12-13 But this man, after
he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand
of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
And those who are Christians died with Him and were raised with Him and
ascended with Him to sit far above all principalities and powers.
Ephe 2:5-6 Even when we were dead
in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
And hath raised [us] up together, and made [us] sit together in heavenly
[places] in Christ Jesus:
Jesus Christ is presently set down at the right hand of the Father.
-
And Eph. 2 says that God quickened us together with Jesus and made us sit
together in heavenly places.
That sounds like too much to believe for some people.
-
But if you take some explanation the Bible gives you and RECKON IT OUT,
start figuring and FIGURE it out, it makes perfectly good sense.
God created Adam and rested.
-
Adam should have entered into a rest with God the VERY NEXT DAY.
-
Did you know that Rest that God entered into was also intended to be the
Rest for man?
Hebr 4:1-5 Let us therefore fear, lest,
a promise being left [us] of entering into his rest, any of you should
seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well
as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed
with faith in them that heard [it]. For we which have believed do
enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall
enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation
of the world. For he spake in a certain place of the seventh [day] on this
wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
And in this [place] again, If they shall enter into my rest.
It was God's rest, and we read in Hebrews 4 that man was intended to enter
into His rest.
-
He rested the seventh day.
-
The Book of Hebrews quotes this from Genesis 2.
-
Then it quoted another Old testament statement that is found after Genesis
2 is recorded, where We are offered the chance to enter the Rest in which
God rested.
-
So God did not trash that plan to have us rest and the reign.
-
And the entrance into that rest is still available.
He just made a way to restore us to that again.
So this gospel is for the whole human race.
-
Man was originally supposed to rule by immediately entering into a rest
and ruling after God finished all the work.
-
We think of ruling after we have worked and sweat and conquered everything.
-
But that is not the way it is in the Kingdom of God.
-
God did the work and finished it.
-
And we rest with Him and rule with Him over all.
This same picture is seen in the New Genesis.
-
This morning we discussed the New Genesis.
-
The New Adam is Jesus.
-
And the New Eve is the Church.
-
She came from His side when His side was pierced on the cross and blood
and water flowed out.
-
And this new humanity is ready for the new heaven and the new earth we
read about in Rev 21:1.
-
God finished the work on the cross and we are to enter His rest.
-
The work was the cross.
-
And the last thing Jesus said before He died was IT IS FINISHED.
-
This is reminiscent of Genesis when God FINISHED his work.
God did not create anything after He finished creation Adam.
-
Eve was not created from dust like Adam was, but was a multiplication of
Adam.
-
God told Adam to multiply.
-
So what God did after creating Adam was multiply him.
-
Eve was the first one to be the result of that multiplication.
-
She came from Adam.
-
God was not going to do any more work after raising Jesus from the grave.
-
It is finished.
-
All that happened after that was that Jesus multiplied.
Jesus said in a long chat with his disciples that bread represented His
flesh and wine His blood.
-
Earlier, Jesus multiplied that bread.
-
But He did something to it before He multiplied it.
-
What did He do to the bread before He multiplied it?
Matt 14:19 And he commanded the multitude
to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes,
and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to
[his] disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
Matt 14:21 And
they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.
He broke it first.
When He spoke about the bread being His flesh, he said:
1Cor 11:24 And when he had given
thanks, he brake [it], and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken
for you: this do in remembrance of me.
It was broken for them.
-
If the flesh was represented by the bread, then the death was the breaking.
-
And after it broke, it multiplied.
-
Jesus entered into Rest after He ascended.
-
He sat down far above all principalities.
-
And we are to enter into that Rest with Him.
-
The work is done.
-
Simply become part of that multiplication.
-
Satan thought that breaking Jesus would end it all.
-
But what happened was that it only caused Jesus to multiply!
-
Jesus increased.
-
God told Adam to multiply and fill the earth.
-
Jesus is multiplying and filling the earth ever since Satan had him broken!!!
AND YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE ADDED TO HIS MULTIPLICATION.
Jesus is multiplied.
-
And to become one of those in the multiplying of Himself, you need to be
added.
Matt 27:57 When the even was come, there
came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph,
who also himself was Jesus' disciple:
Matt 27:59-60 And when Joseph had taken
the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, And laid it in his
own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled
a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
ARIMATHAEA means "heights"
-
Jesus ascended in the heights so high that He was far above all principalities
and powers.
-
Mankind was created to rule in the heights!
-
That is where we belong.
JOSEPH means "LET HIM ADD"
-
Joseph put Jesus in the tomb that he was to be buried in.
-
You need to see that Jesus died as you.
-
You died with Him.
-
The tomb that was intended for you is now used because you died with Jesus
when Jesus died.
-
That tomb that he was put into was your tomb.
-
You already died in Christ.
-
He died because you had to die.
-
He died for you, so you are dead.
This is the way you are ADDED to the Body of Christ.
-
Joseph means "LET HIM ADD"
-
Just replace Joseph's name with your's.
-
You are added to the Body of Christ and become part of the new humanity
when you accept the Gospel and truly believe that Jesus died for you.
-
You believe that you died with Him.
-
Like Joseph, you put Him in your tomb.
-
You believe His death is your death.
The reason we enter into His rest is that we were added to Him when He
died, and was buried.
-
So that when He resurrected, you can say you resurrected.
-
The natural sequence of events that follow those who died with Christ is
that they would rise with Him.
Roma 6:4-6 Therefore we are buried with
him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead
by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall
be also [in the likeness] of [his] resurrection: Knowing this, that our
old man is crucified with [him], that the body of sin might be destroyed,
that henceforth we should not serve sin.
A friend of mine in Newfoundland received a phone call that she won several
$100,000.00.
-
She called me up.
-
She said, Pastor Blume you would not believe what happened.
-
She said that she got a call that she won several hundreds of thousands
of dollars.
-
And she laughed it off.
-
She then heard the caller tell a person with him that she would not believe
him.
-
She laughed and hung up the phone.
-
After she thought about it, she remembered how she entered a free draw
at some store and recalled that grand prize was several hundred thousand
of dollars.
-
If she have RECKONED it out... figured it out... she would have realized
that she did enter that draw.
-
And she said she would have paid me the tithes!!! (Argghhhh!!) :-)
-
It sounded too good to believe, so she did not believe.
Romans 12:2 says that the Christians, the ones who accepted this Gospel,
need their minds renewed.
-
Experiencing a renewing of the mind will transform our Christian lives.
-
Because sometimes we simply think the figures are astronomical, and too
good to believe.
-
We look at the figures and say, "That's far too much for me to really believe."
-
These verses in Romans show the figuring and the mind renewal.
-
It is the part of the chapter that we feed on until it hits us and we understand
how it figures.
-
We learn HOW we died on the cross with Him, and how the "old you", that
was limited by sin, is gone.
-
And when you understand it, you can clearly see that it is the absolute
truth.
In fact, you see it so clearly that when people say the only hope for troubled
lives is to change your address and move away from the surroundings where
you had the problem..
-
Or to change the way you look, your hair and your clothes so that when
you look at yourself it kind of fools you into thinking the old troubles
are not part of you anymore...
-
When people say these type of things, you laugh and say that the "old you"
is dead and buried.
-
You reckoned it out.
-
You FIGURED it out.
-
There really is a rest in which we can reign with Him!
-
BELIEVE IT!
God told Moses to build an ark of the covenant with a mercy seat in the
tabernacle.
-
This mercy seat represented the throne of God and was set in the Most Holy
Place.
-
It represented where Adam was supposed to sit and rule with Christ.
The next thing God told Moses to make was a table of Shewbread.
-
On that table were put loaves of bread.
-
The bread represents the WORD OF GOD.
-
BREAD OF LIFE.
-
(Jesus' flesh, too, since the WORD was made FLESH)
-
You must feast on that WORD OF GOD until you understand it.
-
Until it hits you.
-
And then you will be able to see yourself as worthy to sit on the mercy
seat of God's throne with God.
Psal 99:1 The LORD reigneth; let the
people tremble: he sitteth [between] the cherubims; let the earth be moved.
He reigns between the cherubims.
-
Sitting on the mercy seat.
-
The mercy seat on the ark was the only place where a seat was found "between
the cherubims".
-
He rests there.
-
Let us enter that rest with Him.
-
To enter that rest where you were created to sit, you must now, since sin,
pass the veil.
-
The veil represents His flesh that was broken in death.
Hebr 10:20 By a new and living way,
which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his
flesh;
Pass the veil and enter into the Rest with Christ.
