NOT
BELIEVING THAT RESURRECTION WOULD REALLY OCCUR

Mark 9:31-32 KJV For he taught his disciples, and said unto
them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall
kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third
day. (32) But they understood not that saying, and were
afraid to ask him.
Luke 9:44-45 KJV Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for
the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.
(45) But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from
them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that
saying.
Luke 18:32-34 KJV For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles,
and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:
(33) And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the
third day he shall rise again. (34) And they understood
none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew
they the things which were spoken.
Clearly there was some kind of mental block in the minds and hearts of
the disciples whenever Jesus spoke of His crucifixion and resurrection.
We clearly read where Jesus said he would be killed and raised again
the third day.
· But when He died, THERE WAS NOT ONE PERSON
WHO EXPECTED HIS RESURRECTION.
Mark 16:1-4 KJV And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene,
and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that
they might come and anoint him. (2) And very early in the
morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the
rising of the sun. (3) And they said among themselves, Who
shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?
(4) And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled
away: for it was very great.
They came to embalm Him.
· And it is the third day since He died, the
day He said He’d rise.
· None of them gathered at the tomb expecting
to see Him missing or at least walking out, since He said He would rise
again the third day.
And we look back at that now and ask how they could be so stupid and
miss that point.
· But we do the same thing all the time.
Colossians 2:20 ISV If you have died with Christ to the basic
principles of the world, why are you submitting to its decrees as
though you still lived in the world?
Notice that Paul asks the Colossian Christians why they still lived as
though they were not dead to the principles of the world with all its
ungodliness.
He said they DID WITH JESUS to those principles.
We are taught that we died and were resurrected with Jesus.
· And that we experienced this in order for us
to resurrect with Him into newness of life.
Romans 6:4-7 KJV Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into
death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of
the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
(5) For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his
death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
(6) Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that
the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve
sin. (7) For he that is dead is freed from sin.
Everything in yellow shows the GOAL of RESURRECTION in our desire to be
included in Jesus’ death.
· So you can say that when Jesus died you
died, and you needed to die because (like verse 7 says) he that is dead
is freed from sin.
· It’s not being good that makes you go
to heaven.
1 Corinthians 15:21-22 KJV (21) For since by man came
death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. (22)
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
Adam brought death and another man had to therefore bring resurrection
from the dead.
· In ADAM everyone dies.
· Picture Adam like the father of the human
race.
· Being IN ADAM means you are in the human
race.
· And the bible teaches that ADAM made the
entire human race into a race of sinners.
Romans 5:12-14 KJV Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the
world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all
have sinned: (13) (For until the law sin was in the world:
but sin is not imputed when there is no law. (14)
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had
not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the
figure of him that was to come.
1 Corinthians 15:21-22 KJV (21) For since by man came
death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. (22)
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
And EVERYONE IN ADAM SHALL DIE.
· Bit everyone IN CHRIST shall be made alive.
1 Corinthians 15:21-22 KJV (21) For since by man came
death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. (22)
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
RESURRECTED.
So our salvation is actually our resurrection.
· But there is as much a dilemma amongst
people who claim salvation as there was with those who were told Jesus
would resurrect after His death.
· THEY DO NOT GET IT!
· The truth of us being resurrected with Jesus
is as obscured and over our heads as it was with the disciples when
they were told Jesus would die and rise again the third day.
WE DO NOT EXPECT TO WALK IN NEWNESS OF LIFE – which is our form
of resurrection with Jesus in Romans 6:5.
· We do not expect to live in the likeness of
His resurrection by having victory over struggles in life.
· We do not expect to no longer serve sin
because the body of sin is destroyed.
· And we do not expect to be freed from sin.
So man believers live as though we will go on the same way
everyone else who is not saved copes with life.
We do not really get it that we were said to resurrect after our deaths
with Christ.
Notice how the Bible connects our lives with Jesus Christ’s
crucifixion.
Galatians 5:24 KJV And they that are Christ's have crucified the
flesh with the affections and lusts.
Notice that we read this in verse 24 which comes after verses 14 -15.
Galatians 5:14-15 KJV For all the law is fulfilled in one word,
even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
(15) But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be
not consumed one of another.
And it is also after these verses:
Galatians 5:19-21 KJV Now the works of the flesh are manifest,
which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness,
lasciviousness, (20) Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred,
variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
(21) Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like:
of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past,
that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Believers fuss with each other and yet we read that the people who are
Jesus Christ’s people are supposed to have crucified the FLESH
– after reading about the works of the flesh – with
it’s affections.
Galatians 5:24 ISV Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have
crucified their flesh with its passions and desires.
Jesus died on the cross and He forgave the people who caused Him to
suffer.
Luke 23:33-34 KJV And when they were come to the place, which is
called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on
the right hand, and the other on the left. (34) Then said
Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they
parted his raiment, and cast lots.
We were crucified with Him.
· When we are baptized, it says we’re
baptized into his death.
· His death involved death to sin, and we
claim we died to sin, too, because of our baptism into that.
· And yet His death included forgiveness to
all who hurt him.
· Do we live like we were crucified With Him
and have forgiveness for those who hurt us?
· Did those who hurt Him ask for forgiveness?
· No.
· But He still forgave them.
· That does not take them off the hook until
they repent to God, but Jesus still forgave them Himself.
· Do we live like we were crucified with Him
by having that kind of forgiveness?
When Jesus resurrected, we read that the thing He died to was no longer
related to Him for Him to have to die to it any more.
Romans 6:7-12 KJV For he that is dead is freed from sin.
(8) Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also
live with him: (9) Knowing that Christ being raised from
the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
(10) For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he
liveth, he liveth unto God. (11) Likewise reckon ye also
yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus
Christ our Lord. (12) Let not sin therefore reign in your
mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
We read that people who die are freed from sin.
· Jesus died to sin once.
· Then verse 11 says we are dead indeed to sin.
· Whatever you DIE TO is what no longer has
power over you.
· So if Gal 5 says we crucified the flesh with
its passions and lusts, then these things should not have power over us
any more.
Galatians 5:24 ISV Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have
crucified their flesh with its passions and desires.
But it all goes back to WHAT WE BELIEVE.
· The people who heard Jesus say He would die
and rise again, never got it, and did not expect His resurrection.
· THEY DID NOT BELIEVE IT.
· How can you believe in what you do not
“get”?
· THE SAME IS WITH US.
We read that we died TO SIN.
· We also read that we crucified our flesh and
its passions.
· We also read this:
Galatians 6:14 KJV But God forbid that I should glory, save in
the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto
me, and I unto the world.
We are crucified to SIN, THE FLESH with its desires, AND TO THE WORLD.
That means when we resurrect WE RISE FREE FROM THE POWER OF THESE
THINGS.
You might say that if this was true then it would be impossible for us
to have any problems with these things.
· You might think that dying to something
means it automatically is no more problem.
· It’s not that simple.
· YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE IN THIS and God sees
your FAITH AND CAUSES YOU TO EXPERIENCE IT only after He sees your
faith in it.
· So let’s begin, if we have not done so
before, to BELIEVE we DIED TO SIN, THE WORLD and OUR LUSTS!
The Lord’s Supper is representative of His shed blood and slain
body.
· The Corinthians abused this and fussed with
each other in divisions and cliques.
· Paul said they did not discern the
Lord’s Body, and were eating and drinking condemnation to
themselves.
1 Corinthians 11:24-31 KJV (24) And when he had given
thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is
broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. (25) After
the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This
cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink
it, in remembrance of me. (26) For as often as ye eat this
bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he
come. (27) Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and
drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and
blood of the Lord. (28) But let a man examine himself, and
so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. (29)
For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh
damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. (30)
For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many
sleep. (31) For if we would judge ourselves, we should not
be judged.
We show HIS DEATH.
· How can we show HIS DEATH if we are fussing
with each other and not overcoming lusts and the world and sin?
· Paul told us to WALK WORTHY of what happened
to us when we were saved.
· He tells us here again to NOT EAT AND DRINK
communion supper UNWORTHILY.
Let us BELIEVE we died and arose with Jesus, so God’s power can
help us ENJOY IT NOW!
