DOUBLE-PORTION UNDERSTANDING
MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Last week we discussed the double portion revelation.
-
One omer of manna was a single man’s portion of manna, given to Israel
on each of five days.
-
And the sixth day saw two omers for every man.
-
A two-man portion for one person.
Remember that Jesus said, in John 6, that the true manna was Himself come
down from heaven.
-
And flesh and blood was also spoken as food and drink in reference to His
death on the cross in which His body would be broken and His blood shed
for us.
-
He said that BELIEVING UPON HIM is what eating the bread of His body and
drinking the wine of his blood means.
-
We do not literally eat his flesh and drink his blood.
-
We spiritually do that when we BELIEVE and apply the work of the cross
to our own lives as the only way to be saved.
-
So if one man’s portion of manna speaks of faith in the cross of Christ
for salvation, then a double portion of manna must speak of a double portion
of faith in the cross.
A double portion of manna on the sixth day took them into the seventh day
sabbath rest.
And the double portion revelation is that TWO died on Jesus’ Cross.
-
You died WITH HIM, If... you were baptized into His death.
This morning we are going to take this INTIMACY understanding further.
-
It affects many things in our lives once we have this revelation.
-
We referred to two New Testament parables last week.
-
The five wise and five foolish virgins of Matthew 25, and the “Lord, Lord”
criers of Matthew 7 who performed wonders but did not enter the Kingdom.
-
Let us look more closely at these parables and notice an aspect we taught
about last year in one service.
Matthew 25:1 Then shall the kingdom
of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went
forth to meet the bridegroom.
Matthew 25:10-12 And while they went to
buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to
the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other
virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said,
Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
Matthew 7:21-23 Not every one that saith
unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that
doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in
that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name
have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then
will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work
iniquity.
In both parables we read of
1. THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN,
2. and A DOOR or ENTRANCE into it,
3. And entering because JESUS KNOWS US.
What is this speaking about?
-
Going to Heaven one day?
-
No.
-
Let me now prove why.
The Kingdom of Heaven is also called the KINGDOM OF GOD.
-
Some people propose that the Kingdom of GOD and the Kingdom of HEAVEN are
two different things.
-
That is incorrect.
-
Compare Mark 4:30-31 with Matthew 13:31-32.
-
Both speak of the idea of a grain of mustard seed being so tiny, yet one
that grows into the largest of all trees.
-
And Mark says that is like the “Kingdom of GOD,” whereas Matthew says that
is like the “Kingdom of HEAVEN.”
-
So the two terms are synonymous.
With that in mind, let us turn to Galatians 5.
Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works
of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness,
lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath,
strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings,
and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you
in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the
kingdom of God.
They who commit works of the flesh will not inherit the KINGDOM OF GOD.
-
Notice that each of these works of the flesh circle around treating others
in a very wrong way.
-
Think about that and read it again.
But does that mean they are not saved?
Let me state right off the bat that I do not propose eternal security.
-
You can definitely lose your salvation.
-
Some of the works listed in Galatians 5 are certainly worse than others.
-
But a life of having to repent every time we turn around and get right
with God again is a wasted life for Christ.
-
Instead of trimming the hedges of our bad habits, why don't we go to the
root of our lives, our hearts, and just get right with God altogether?
-
We may be saved after repenting all of our lives, but we will have done
nothing for God.
-
And especially note three in this list — STRIFE, SEDITIONS and ENVYING.
Now let’s read...:
1Corinthians 3:3 For ye are yet
carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions
[same as seditions], are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
These people committed the very things listed in Galatians 5.
1 Corinthians 3:9 For we are labourers
together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
(The foolish man built his house upon the sand...)
1 Corinthians 3:10-15 According
to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I
have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man
take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay
than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this
foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's
work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall
be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort
it is.If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive
a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but
he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
(And the house came tumbling down)
Paul said that the envying and striving and dividing of the people in
this church was compared to wood, hay and stubble being used to construct
the building of God which they themselves were.
-
Yet verse 15 says that these people would themselves be saved.
-
They had the foundation beneath them.
-
Verse 11 — CHRIST.
-
But they did not build the temple of their LIVES with the proper materials.
-
You do not build your lives with envying, fighting and divisions.
-
That is not a very good LIFE to live.
-
Houses speak of your life — where you live.
Such material as wood, hay and stubble cannot survive the test of fire.
-
Such a building cannot stand.
Imagine wasting an entire Christian life with envying and fighting and
dividing with fellow Christians in your church, and suffering confusion
of problems all your life.
-
That is exactly what these Corinthians were doing.
-
And many people are like that today, also.
-
Yet we read they talked in tongues, and performed many wonderful works.
-
The 9 gifts of the Spirit are listed in 1 Cor 12, and we read in 1 Cor
1:7 that they came behind in no gift.
Their HOUSES were made of wood, hay and stubble, so to speak.
-
Yet they operated the gifts of the Spirit, such as healings and miracles.
-
Outward wonders and no inward blessings.
-
And we read they would be saved, but enjoy no rewards.
-
Therefore Galatians’ reference to not inheriting the kingdom of God due
to manifesting these things cannot refer to not being saved.
-
And that means that not inheriting the Kingdom refers to something NOW,
before we die or are raptured and go to Heaven.
-
There is something that the fighters and envyers and dividers are not inheriting
here and now.
And then
will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work
iniquity.
They are not ENTERING the Kingdom of Heaven here and now.
-
There is a KNOWING OF JESUS that they are not experiencing.
-
And that is barring them out of the Kingdom!
-
How many know that Israel was God’s people but yet due to sin they were
bound in Babylon and not in the Kingdom of their homeland!
People, these “Lord, Lord” criers had the miracles, but Jesus never knew
them. — and they were as fools building houses on sand that are smashed
by every problem that comes along.
God will allow your life to be miserable if you do not love one another.
There is something beyond filling your head with Scriptures.
-
There is something beyond having faith to heal the sick.
-
There is something beyond sitting there and listening to me preach.
-
THERE IS A RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS THAT IS THE DOUBLE-PORTION EXPERIENCE,
WHERE JESUS KNOWS US.
-
Look at the lack of blessings the Lord, Lord criers had.
Matthew 7:24-27 Therefore whosoever
heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a
wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and
the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell
not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings
of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which
built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came,
and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was
the fall of it.
The double portion blessing is entering into the rest that we spoke about
last week.
-
It is being blessed by God.
-
Its beyond blessings of physical healings and miracles, though.
-
It is blessings of strength in life’s storms.
-
Blessings of divine protection in life’s trials and tribulations.
Its building the house of God that we are out of GOLD, SILVER and PRECIOUS
STONES.
Paul spoke of the structure being messed upon 1 Cor 3.
-
Jesus spoke of the foundation being messed up in Matthew 21.
-
But both speak of houses that FALL.
Whether it’s a wooden structure that is supposed to be golden, or a house
on sand that should be on rock, the house will fall.
-
The fire will burn the wood and the storms will blow the sandy-founded
house down.
-
The point is that BOTH HOUSES FALL.
-
Life will rip you apart if you fail to build properly.
-
You need to know Jesus in a world like this, let alone to be ready for
Heaven one day.
Colossians 1:18 And he is the head of
the body, the church
Colossians 1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings
for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ
in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:
Too many Christians fight and fuss with one another, like these Corinthians.
-
They cannot KNOW Christ, or intimately LOVE Him, because they fight the
BODY OF CHRIST, each other.
“Oh, we talk in tongues, pastor! God must be pleased with us.”
-
Yes, and so did the envying, dividing and fussing Corinthians.
-
But you may not Know Christ!
-
Many seem to automatically think that those who operate miracles are in
God’s pleasure.
-
However, operating gifts does not imply that God is pleased with your life.
-
The Corinthians proved that.
As we said, knowing is a two-way street.
-
Jesus choice of saying “I never KNEW you” means that there is no intimacy
between Him and the person.
-
Therefore, it is a situation in which, if He does not know you, you do
not know Him.
-
This is not speaking about the acquaintance aspect of knowing.
-
It is speaking about the intimacy of knowing someone.
And since entering the KINGDOM is rewarded us if we KNOW CHRIST, and yet
we cannot enter if we commit works of the flesh against each other, but
instead will be like houses on sand that are smashed by storms...
-
...then GOD IS TRYING TO TELL US THAT IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE WITH YOUR BROTHER
OR SISTER, THEN HE WILL ALLOW YOUR LIFE TO BE BATTERED, AND YOU WILL STRUGGLE
AND YOU WILL ALWAYS FALL.
The parable of the houses on sand and stone are teaching us that if we
hate each other, Christ does not know us and we will suffer throughout
our lives.
-
Things will always go wrong for us.
That is the reason we read:
Philippians 4:7-9 And the peace of God,
which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through
Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever
things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if
there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and
seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
The God of Peace will be with us — THAT MEANS WE WILL HAVE PEACE IN
OUR LIVES.
-
Jerusalem means CITY OF PEACE.
-
And Israel had peace so long as they obeyed God’s laws.
-
They dwelt safely in the KINGDOM in JERUSALEM.
-
But when they rebelled, they were removed and taken to BABYLON.
-
People will not have peace but will have confusion in their lives — nothing
going right for them — when they do not obey the Word and love one another.
-
It is to the same Corinthians that Paul said this...
1 Corinthians 13:1-3 Though I speak
with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become
as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of
prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I
have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity,
I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though
I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
These people fought one another and envied one another.
-
They had no love for one another.
-
Love covers a multitude of sins.
-
But they did not cover one another’s differences, let alone sins, and did
not overlook them.
-
They attacked them head-on and refused to get along .
-
They had the gifts, coming behind in none of them, but they lacked love.
They did not KNOW JESUS.
They did not LOVE Jesus.
1John 4:7-8 Beloved, let us love
one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God,
and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
The Apostle who loved Jesus so much, always spoke so much about loving
one another.
-
This man knew that loving one another is loving Jesus, because we are all
His Body.
He that loveth not KNOWETH NOT GOD.
-
If there is one brother or sister whom we cannot love, then we do not know
God.
-
He is saying, “I never knew you.”
-
And storms are rocking your house to pieces.
The truth of loving each other and thereby KNOWING JESUS is seen elsewhere.
-
Let’s reference these same poor Corinthians again.
1 Corinthians 11:20-21 When ye come together
therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord's supper. For in
eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry
(HAD NOT EATEN YET), and another is drunken (HAD ALREADY EATEN).
These people in that church had cliques in which they gathered and when
everyone was together in their clique, they ate the communion supper.
-
They did not see the unity of the entire congregation together being of
the same Body of Christ.
-
And by eating when their clique was together, as the rest still were gathering
to eat, these people were completely disregarding the rest of the church.
-
In their hearts, they had cut off the other members.
-
Paul said that this is not what the Lord’s supper is all about.
1 Corinthians 11:22 What? have ye not
houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God,
and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you
in this? I praise you not.
They despised the church — the PEOPLE?
-
The CHURCH is the people, not the worship building.
1 Corinthians 11:29 For he that eateth
and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not
discerning the Lord's body.
That kind of ill treatment of brothers and sisters was causing them to
not discern the Lord’s Body.
-
The Lord’s Body is everyone who is born again.
-
Not just the ones in your clique.
-
And to have this kind of attitude is to not be fit to eat the Lord’s supper.
-
It does not suit the Lord’s Supper and what it means.
-
It is contradicting everything that the Lord’s Supper is all about.
-
Everyone who is saved is part of the Lord’s Body, whether you personally
like them or not.
-
And that is why we should eat the bread and drink the wine together as
a congregation, and not scurry into the corner and eat when our clique
is ready.
And because of this lack of love for each other, notice what Paul said
happened to them.
-
Think of the fool’s house on sand, and the Corinthians’ wooden, hay and
stubble-comprised houses that burned in the fire of God...
1 Corinthians 11:30 For this cause many
are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
THE STORMS COME AND THE HOUSE FALLS.
I believe that the Lord wants to feed us a whole lot of good bread
and wine this year.
-
Is it a coincidence that today is the first Sunday of 2001 and we are studying
this subject this morning?
-
Is it a coincidence that this year marks the SEVENTH MILLENNIUM since Adam,
and the THIRD MILLENNIUM since Jesus?
-
A thousand years is likened to one day in the Bible.
-
The number seven implies perfection or maturity, and rest.
-
The number three implies resurrection
God wants to feed us manna to enter the Rest.
-
Its 100 years exactly since the restored Pentecostal revival hit Topeka,
Kansas.
-
Its time we stopped playing with tongues and gifts of healing and grew
up into maturity where we treat one another as the Body of Christ that
we are.
-
Its time we do our parts for the Kingdom here in this church.
-
If you’re not supporting this church in tithes and offerings, its time
you started this year.
-
Let’s pull together.
-
Let’s love one another.
-
If you love this church, this congregation, you will support it spiritually
and financially, both.
Did you know that refusal to pay the Church tithes and offerings is robbing
GOD?
-
Why? Because love of the Body and of the Lord is the same thing.
Malachi 3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet
ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and
offerings.
Tithes go to the work of GOD.
-
And lack of paying tithes is robbing God.
-
Because the CHURCH is Jesus’ body.
-
Where our treasure is there will our heart be also.
-
We’ll do our part to ensure people find a place to worship God in and grow
with true believers when they come here.
-
If we believe in what we’re doing here, then we’ll support the work here.
-
We’ll do our best to do what we can with whatever gift we have here, and
not shirk our ministry because of someone with whom we strive, divide and
envy here.
This is God’s BODY and your ministry must be accomplished for God, not
for anybody here.
-
So if you’re holding out because of a person here, you’re completely mistaken.
-
Let God deal with that person.
-
You do your part for God and minister.
-
EVERYONE IS A MINISTER.
So the Corinthians were sickly and some were dying all because they did
not discern the Lord’s body, or love each other as members of the body.
Imagine part of your body hurting and the rest of your body laughing
and saying, “That’s just what you deserve.”
-
And the rest of the Body hitting it and kicking it.
-
Or one part of the body saying, “Let the others help it. I can’t
stand that member.”
-
That is nonsense.
-
But it happens all over the world in Christ’s body.
Knowing Him is coming into intimacy with Him.
-
It’s a double portion Christianity.
-
Because we learned last week that a double portion is that you are one
body with Christ and you died with Him when He died.
-
The dual aspect of the cross.
-
But today we discover that everyone else who died with Him is part of the
BODY OF CHRIST.
-
And our union to Him brings a union to each other.
-
Communion was not only for recognition of our unions to his death by putting
the broken bread into ourselves, as though we apply His death to ourselves,
....
-
But it is also a unity with everyone else who is in the Body.
-
We eat it together.
-
The double portion revelation makes a difference between you and everyone
else in the Body of Christ.
Why do we get together like this at the altar?
-
The BODY needs to be together in times when we pray to the Lord around the truths that the sermon ministered to us.
-
We’re trying to get you to come together as one body.
-
And you should come to the altar everytime we have altar call.
The double portion revelation makes a difference in your life!
