THE MERCY RIVER OF ETERNAL LIFE

We know Jesus received the sure mercies of David according to Paul in His resurrection.

But....

Isaiah 55:1-3 KJV  Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.  (2)  Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.  (3)  Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

HE IS SPEAKING TO US TODAY ABOUT HOW WE CAN buy bread and wine (hello?) and milk without money, by HEARING.
  • And God will make an everlasting covenant with us -- EVEN THE SURE MERCIES OF DAVID.

So WE receive the sure mercies of David in a covenant That God gave to David.
  • Just as JESUS RECEIVED IT!

Isaiah 55:5 KJV  Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee.

Isaiah 55:7 KJV  Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

Isaiah 55:13 KJV  Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

And here is a picture of how we receive ti.

Revelation 22:17 KJV  And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

That RIVER is the SPIRIT OF GOD.

Jesus spoke of us receiving this river if we are thirsty in John 7.

It is about the FEAST OF TABERNACLES:

John 7:1-10 KJV  After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.  (2)  Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand.  (3)  His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.  (4)  For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.  (5)  For neither did his brethren believe in him.  (6)  Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.  (7)  The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.  (8)  Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.  (9)  When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.  (10)  But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.

John 7:37-39 KJV  In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.  (38)  He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.  (39)  (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

ADAM CLARKE:  It was probably when they went to draw water from the pool Siloam, and while they were pouring it out at the foot of the altar, that our Lord spoke these words; for, as that ceremony pointed out the gracious influences of the Holy Spirit, our Lord, who was the fountain whence it was to proceed, called the people to himself, that, by believing on him, they might be made partakers of that inestimable benefit.

Jesus cried about Holy Ghost on great day of feast… closing day.

-    The day after the week of the Feast of tabernacles, as the conclusion of the series of yearly festivals.
-    Ended all series of 7 feasts.
-    Great day.
-    8th day always means beginning.

Zechariah 14:8-9 KJV  And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.  (9)  And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.

Zechariah 14:16 KJV  And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

Revelation 21:3 KJV  And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God [FEAST OF TABERNACLES] is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

Revelation 21:4-5 KJV  And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.  (5)  And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature:old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Revelation 22:1 KJV  And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

Revelation 22:3 KJV  And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:

Just as Isaiah 55 said the thorns would be replaced by fir trees, and thorns represent the curse of the garden of Eden, Rev says there is no more curse!

Zech 14 and Rev 21 and 22 both show Living waters and God’s throne in (New) Jerusalem.
·    Just as Jesus spoke of living waters at the feast of Tabernacles.

And Rev 22 is a perfect symbolic vision of Acts 2:

Acts 2:33 KJV  Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

The Spirit is "shed forth", which is literally "poured out" as though it were a river.
  • With Christ having gone to the throne, and shedding forth the Spirit, this is perfectly symbolized in Revelation 22's vision of the Lamb with the Father pouring forth the River of Life.
